A Love Letter; Written In Anger

To those incredible humans in the margins, resisting in spite of it all. You make the world.

This is a poem about hatred & violence. It is also about resistance & hope. While it uses strong adjectives, it is contemplative and does not have vivid descriptions.

An open black and white book with text that reads: Your hatred is exhausting Parodying logic and sense A comedically tragic, Shakespearean entitlement Laced with self-deceit. It would be amusing, if Fear avalanching into violence Wasn’t terrorisingly explicit And purportedly misguided notions Weren’t carefully constructed To bolster and rebuke The imagined insecurities Of a wilful ignorance In which equality Somehow becomes oppression. A status quo Orchestrated and executed For the sake of profits Illusory and insipid. Autogenous vacuity Begotten and bestowed By the calcified structures Of racism and misogyny, And inframed by systems Of capital and religion. Our legacy violence Our story torture, Identities predicated on exclusion By voices maliciously distorted— An agenda, deliberately intended. You falsely transpose Your epistemological And existential dread Onto the idealisation of death As a liability equaliser. A place you’ve manufactured Where rape, murder, and torment Proliferate the militarisation Of a logic of persecution that Normalises sacrificing others To degradation and suffering, a Bleeding into indistinguishability that Belies the appearance of power— An accumulative and irreversible Erasure of substance.
An open black and white book with text that reads: A scaffolding of disdain That insists On the patently hollow fallacy Of unimpeachable surety. But you cannot Appease the unknown As if it were A vengeful demigod, Nor can you dupe it With postulations of power When it remains A constancy of which There are very few. You continue to contrive With a deflection that is Synonymous with absolutism But discomposure betrays you And feeble illogic exposes Your record of events. In “conquering” peoples You have not Prophetised self-salvation But made an enemy Of fallibility, Denouncing its existence As it puppeteers your fate. The light of hypocrisy Magnifying the impotence Of an evasion lit by gas Deployed to absolve yourself Of any culpability or misconclusion.
An open black and white book with text that reads: Violate — pathologise — Lynch — incarcerate — Brutalise — murder — Dehumanise — invalidate — Cripple — dispirit — Manipulate — betray — Abduct — colonise — Deny — debase — Enslave — alienate — Oppress — exploit — Blame — degrade — Silence — Erase — They will not placate The frailty of a rationality That myopically desecrates Ambiguity as depravity By invoking the privilege Of centuries Displacing accountability And conflating your dis-ease With the imperative of survival That resists and subverts, Denounces and dismantles The inviolable mistakes Systematically enacted To compensate for your Pernicious delusions That internally proclaim Validity and authority While staunchly Denying the ambiguities You are too frightened to even Unconsciously entertain.
An open black and white book with text that reads: For within this exhaustion Lies an energy, a witchery That augments to endure In spite of your bigoted dictates. Transformative of self, Rather than other, It negates Your attempts to expunge And obliterate. Reckoning with multiplicity There is a bravery At stake, wholly Incomprehensible to you. And in confronting That same, interminable Interplay of polarities, A strength Of vulnerability Finds an imperative Of expansion Rather than One of annihilation. The irony Of your attempts To escape death By inflicting it upon others, Is that while your fear Infinitely multiplies The actuality of it for survivors Necessitates a comprehension Of how freedom Can triumph  In the suffocating darkness Of an echo chamber In which articulation Cannot be forcefully silenced.
An open black and white book with text that reads: Equipping the resistance Was the unintended Consequence Of your misplaced hostility. While your contempt Self-implicates, A rebounding of Shattered rationalisations Belie a clamouring greed That is unable to find Redemption in others. While you blunder and grasp In the strangeness of fear, Those you denounce and dismiss Are all too acquainted with This tragically familiar veneer. Uneasiness consumes you Unable to defend itself Or the self-serving victimisations That pale under the Varnish of scrutiny. Reaching through The walls You erected To keep them in place, For themselves And for one another. With utter grace And unmerited mercy, At the matrix Of a crossroads So often trodden, Each step Forging openings For others to follow. Gradually but resolutely, Amending and redefining the Fatally destructive proclivities That were, and should never Have been, their responsibility. You’re incensed that The resisting persist — Nevertheless And the fractures And inconsistencies Among themselves Encompass what you Cannot entertain: Revolutionary reimaginings Of a restorative community.
